In Book 2, Chapter 30, Atlas is named as the father of Alcyone; in Book 3, Chapter 18, Taygetes is identified as his daughter. Book 4, Chapter 33, names Electra (daughter of Atlas) as his daughter, and Book 5, Chapter 10, places Sterope beside him as his wife, “one of the daughters of Atlas.”
That same chapter depicts Hercules “supporting the load of Atlas”; in Book 5, Chapter 18, a man advancing toward Atlas with a sword is identified as Hercules. Book 8, Chapter 12, names Mæra as his daughter, and Book 9, Chapter 20, refers to Homer writing of Atlas.
