The New Testament

Marcus

Family: Christian · Role: kinsman of Barnabas · First appears: Colossians 4

Marcus is a Christian and Barnabas’s sister’s son. In Colossians 4, Paul counted him among his fellow workers in God’s kingdom and said Marcus had been a comfort to him; believers were instructed, “if he come unto you, receive him;”

In Philemon 1, Marcus was listed among Paul’s fellow labourers and was a friend of Philemon. By 1 Peter 5, Peter called him “my son,” while the church at Babylon sent greetings with him.
