Mary Bennet

In ch.2, Mary is one of Mr. Bennet and Mrs. Bennet’s daughters, alongside Elizabeth Bennet, Catherine Bennet, and Lydia Bennet. When the girls faced their father, “The girls stared at their father.” Afterward, Mrs. Bennet praised Mr. Bennet as an excellent father. In ch.3, Mary is a sister to Jane Bennet, and the five daughters help Mrs. Bennet question their father about Mr. Bingley.

At four o’clock in ch.13, Mr. Collins, Mary’s cousin and suitor, arrives at the Bennet household and is received politely by the whole family. He says he comes prepared to admire the young ladies. In ch.17, at Netherfield the following Tuesday, Charles Bingley and his sisters invite the Bennet family to their long-expected ball.
