Pippin
Family: Franks · Role: duke · First appears: Book V · Chap. X
Pippin, duke of the Franks, subdued the nearer part of Frisland around 692 and expelled Rathbed. He then sent Wilbrord and the missionaries there, “supporting them at the same time with his sovereign authority,” while the bodies of Black Hewald and White Hewald, after their deaths, were brought to him; Pippin had them buried honourably in the church at Cologne, “with much honour.”
In 696, at the request of his wife Blithryda, Pippin gave Suidbert an abode on the Rhine island of Inlitore, and gave Wilbrord a place for his episcopal see at Wiltaburg. Later, after Charles, king of the Franks, died, Pippin and his brother Caroloman reigned in his stead.
