Tahmíneh

Also known as: Tahmineh · Family: Túrán · Role: Sohráb's mother · First appears: Story of Sohráb · Part 2

In the Story of Sohráb, Tahmíneh married Rustem, and after nine months gave birth to Sohráb, naming him herself. She concealed his birth and claimed she had borne a daughter, but later told Sohráb that Rustem was his father and showed him Rustem’s letter and the gifts sent from Persia.

In the Story of Sohráb, she sent Zinda-ruzm to protect Sohráb and, if danger arose, to present him to his father. After Sohráb’s death, Tahmíneh grieved for him until “The mother's spirit joined her child in Heaven.”
