Mary Magdalene
Also known as: Mary called Magdalene · Family: Jesus's followers · Role: follower of Jesus · First appears: Matthew 27
In Matthew 27, Mary Magdalene followed Jesus from Galilee and ministered to him, among the women who watched from afar. In Matthew 28, as she went to tell the disciples, she and the other women held Jesus by the feet and worshipped him; he told them, “Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.”
On the first day of the week, the women found the sepulchre’s stone rolled away, and Jesus, risen, appeared first to Mary Magdalene, “out of whom he had cast seven devils.” In John 20, she found the stone removed from Jesus’s sepulchre, saw him alive, and reported to Peter and the disciples that she had seen Jesus and that he had spoken to her.
