Myths of the Iroquois

the old man (Chapter 49)

Role: uncle · First appears: The Boy And The Corn

The old man brought up his nephew, the boy, in a solitary place. In the morning, while his uncle was away, the boy used the magic wand on the kettle, making it grow so large he could not stop it before the old man returned.

When the boy insisted he could fetch corn from a dangerous place, the old man moaned, “I shall never see you again,” but the boy set out. After escaping the witches, the boy returned safely with plenty of corn, and the old man asked where he had been.
