Pausanias' Description of Greece

Cephisodotus

Family: Athenians · Role: sculptor · First appears: Book 8 · Chapter 30

At Megalopolis, Cephisodotus and Xenophon carved statues of Zeus, Megalopolis, and Artemis in Pentelican marble. Later, he made for the Athenians a statue of Peace holding Wealth.

In Book 10, Cephisodotus is named among the Bœotarchs with Thearidas, Diogenes, and Lysander, as Greek contingents joined at Thermopylae against the Galati. At Sperchius, the Greeks destroyed the bridges and camped beside the river; after Galati crossed it during the night, the Greek detachment returned to the main army.
