Poseidon
Also known as: Poseidon Genethlius · Family: gods · Role: god · First appears: Book I 1
In Book I, Poseidon was connected as a parent to Pelias, Nauplius, Euphemus, Erginus, and Ancaeus, and he was married to Amymone, with whom he had Nauplius. He also granted Periclymenus immense strength and the power to change shape during battle: “Poseidon had given him boundless strength and granted him that whatever shape he should crave during the fight, that he should take in the stress of battle.” As Poseidon Genethlius, he was the father of Amycus through Bithynian Melie.
In Book IV, Poseidon carried Corcyra away through love and settled her on an island far from Phlius. He was married to Amphitrite and was the father of Triton, who described Poseidon as his sire. At once, a monstrous horse leapt from the sea as a portent for the Minyae, in the scene involving Jason.
