Dinah

Family: Jacob household · Role: daughter · First appears: Genesis 30

In Genesis 30, Dinah was born to Leah and Jacob. In Genesis 34, she went out to see the daughters of the land, where Shechem took her, lay with her, and “defiled her.” Shechem then asked Hamor to obtain Dinah as his wife, saying, “Get me this damsel to wife.”

Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, deceitfully made giving her conditional on every male being circumcised. On the third day, they took Dinah out of Shechem’s house and went out, and they slew all the males of the city.
