Duke of Bourbon (Africa expedition)
Family: France · Role: duke · First appears: Book 4, Chapter 1, part 1/2
In 1390, the Duke of Bourbon was chosen to command the expedition, with Lord de Coucy as his second. The knights and squires embarked from Genoa on St. John Baptist’s Day. In Book 4, Chapter 3, Antonio Marchi brought a Saracen messenger to the Duke and Lord de Coucy, and the French lords explained their reasons for making war on the Saracens.
In Chapter 5, Lord de Coucy objected to a proposed combat and went to consult the Duke and the assembled barons. At the council in the Duke’s tent in Chapter 6, the leaders decided to break up the siege for the season and return home; the army then embarked and left the coast.
