Tsiké Sas Nátlehi

Role: sister of eleven divine brothers; Coyote's wife, who became a bear · First appears: Origin Legend II: Early Events in the Fifth World · Part 7

In Origin Legend II: Early Events in the Fifth World · Part 7, Tsiké Sas Nátlehi refused marriage offers from Tsóhanoai and other potent gods because they could not meet her conditions. She told Coyote that she would not marry anyone who had not killed an anáye. In Part 8, after Coyote brought an anáye’s scalp and weapons, she continued to refuse him, repeatedly beating or pounding him and scattering his remains when he returned. When he had fulfilled all her conditions, she consented to become his wife. At sunset, her brothers ordered them out of the lodge; she and Coyote built a shelter, and she carried her belongings there.

In Part 9, she underwent four deaths and resurrections, like Coyote. In Part 10, while her youngest brother, Léyaneyani, watched, she replaced her eye-teeth and lower canines with pieces of bone awls, declaring losses for those who dreamed of losing them. In Part 11, hair spread over her body as she performed mystic work, and she transformed into a bear. She fought Coyote’s slayers in the fatal canyon, healing her wounds with magic, and conquered them after four days and nights. She then tracked down and killed nine brothers in three groups, and another in the north. At the lodge, she found Léyaneyani hidden beneath stones and coaxed him to come up, but Ni'ltsi warned him not to take her hand.

In Part 12, while arranging Léyaneyani’s hair, she tried to kill him; he shot her with his chain-lightning arrow and stopped her blood from flowing together and reviving her. He threw her head at the foot of a piñon tree, where it changed into a bear that walked away.
