the local manito of the rock (Paup-puk-keewiss legend)

First appears: Paup-puk-keewiss · Part 5

In Paup-puk-keewiss · Part 5, the local manito of the rock sheltered Paup-Puk-Keewiss and refused to open the door to Manabozho. Though afraid of him, the manito told his guest, “Since I have sheltered you, I would sooner die with you than open the door.” Manabozho gave the manito only until night to live, and when night came, falling rocks crushed the mortal bodies of both the manito and Paup-Puk-Keewiss.
