Aholibah
Role: allegorical woman · First appears: Ezekiel 23
In Ezekiel 23, God reveals Aholah as Samaria and Aholibah as Jerusalem: “Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.” Aholibah is Aholah’s sister and younger kin; they are God’s and bear sons and daughters.
At Chaldea, Aholibah sends messengers to the Babylonians, who come to her and defile her. God then raises her former lovers against her and delivers her to those she hates, who strip and expose her. God commands Ezekiel to judge Aholah and Aholibah and declare their abominations: “The LORD said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;” They are judged as adulteresses and women who shed blood, and God brings a company against them to remove and spoil them, kill their sons and daughters, and burn their houses.
