The Prophets

Aholah

Role: allegorical woman · First appears: Ezekiel 23

In Ezekiel 23, Aholah is identified as Samaria, while Aholibah is identified as Jerusalem; the two are sisters, with Aholah the elder. “Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.”

God delivers Aholah into the hands of those she desired, and her children and she are killed. God then commands Ezekiel to judge Aholah and Aholibah and declare their abominations, and they are judged as adulteresses and women who shed blood. A company is brought against them to remove and spoil them; their sons and daughters are slain, and their houses are burned.
