The Wars of the Jews

Paulinus

Family: Roman · Role: tribune · First appears: Book III, Chapter 8

In Book III, Chapter 8, Vespasian sent Paulinus and Gallicanus, both tribunes, to offer Josephus assurances and invite him to come up. Paulinus helped give Josephus security for his life, but their assurances did not persuade him.

Around c. 72, after Lupus died, Paulinus succeeded him as governor of Alexandria. At Onion, he removed the remaining donations, threatened the priests if they did not surrender them, and barred those wishing to worship God from approaching the sacred place.
