Ana Félix
Also known as: Ana Felix / Moorish girl / Morisco Christian · Role: Morisco Christian · First appears: Part 2, Ch. 63.3
In Part 2, Ch. 63.3, Ana Félix was forcibly carried into exile by her uncles despite being a Christian: “more by force than of my own will, they took me with them.” Don Gaspar Gregorio joined the departing Moriscoes, and Ana Félix disguised him as a Moorish woman before bringing him before the king. She and Don Gaspar Gregorio had fallen in love, while Ricote returned to find her and revealed himself as her father. The viceroy released her by untying the cord around her hands, and Ana Félix defended the renegade, saying she could answer for him and that he wished to remain in Spain.
In Part 2, Ch. 63.4, Ana Félix embraced Ricote after her release, and Don Antonio Moreno took them both into his home at the viceroy’s direction. A plan was agreed to rescue Don Gaspar Gregorio from danger in Algiers; two days later, Ana Félix remained under Don Antonio Moreno’s wife’s care while Ricote stayed in the viceroy’s house. Don Gaspar Gregorio departed to visit his parents and seek a way to return for her, and their separation was marked by tears, sighs, swoonings, and sobs.
