Zarír
Family: Irán · Role: son of Lohurásp · First appears: Lohurásp · Part 1
In the Story of Lohurásp, Zarír was one of Lohurásp’s four sons, alongside Ardshír, Shydasp and Gushtásp. When Gushtásp left, Lohurásp sent Zarír with a thousand horsemen to persuade him to return. Zarír won his agreement to come back on condition that he be named heir and treated with respect, and brought him to Lohurásp. Later, Lohurásp sent Zarír to search for Gushtásp again, but he returned without finding him. When Gushtásp returned to Irán with Kitabún, Zarír accompanied them.
In the Story of Gushtásp, and the Faith of Zerdusht, Zarír was Isfendiyár’s uncle. When Isfendiyár offered to lead the army, Zarír objected because of his youth and proposed to take command himself; Gushtásp agreed. Zarír attacked Arjásp’s forces and penetrated their headquarters, but Bai-derafsh struck him down. Gushtásp placed Zarír in a coffin beneath a lofty monument, where lights were kept burning day and night.
