The Sháh Námeh

Kurugsar

Family: Demons · Role: gladiator · First appears: Gushtásp, and the Faith of Zerdusht · Part 4

In the story of Gushtásp, and the Faith of Zerdusht, Isfendiyár captured Kurugsar and brought him before the Persian ranks. Gushtásp pardoned him, freed him, and ordered him to obey Isfendiyár, at whose entreaty he had been spared.

In the story of the Heft-khan of Isfendiyár, Isfendiyár first bound Kurugsar in chains for the journey. Kurugsar warned him that the Símúrgh and her two young ones awaited him, but later admitted that he had exaggerated the dangers to make Isfendiyár turn back and release him. Isfendiyár freed him and promised him the government of a kingdom; when Kurugsar spoke against him, Isfendiyár killed him with a stroke of his sword.
