First appears: The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae · Fragments 1–20

Iphianassa was the daughter of Proetus and Stheneboea, and a sister of Lysippe and Iphinoe. The daughters of Proetus fell mad after refusing the rites of Dionysus; “Afterwards they were cured by Melampus, the son of Amythaon.” Believing they had become cows, they left Argos, their homeland.
