Hakon (son of Hamund)
Also known as: Hakon · Family: Danes · Role: king · First appears: Book Seven · Part 7
In Book Seven · Part 7, warriors including Ottar and Starkad entered Hakon’s service, described as “the mightiest of the rovers.” In Book Seven · Part 9, Signe (daughter of Sigar) was inclined to love him for the renown of his deeds; afterwards, she praised him above Hildigisl and sang of him, though the bystanders took her praise to refer to Hagbard.
In Book Seven · Part 12, as Hakon prepared to turn from the Irish against the Danes to avenge his brother, Hakon (the Zealander, son of Wigar) and Starkad deserted him, ending their alliance with him. At Herwig, Hakon defeated Sigar, who was slain at Walbrunna; he then ordered a general slaughter of women and children before withdrawing with a third of his army to his fleet. In Book Seven · Part 13, after encountering Borgar, Hakon fled with three ships to the country of the Scots and died there two years later.
