Also known as: the young Chippewa · Family: Odjibwas · Role: young man · First appears: The White Stone Canoe

In “The White Stone Canoe,” the handsome young man was engaged to the very beautiful young girl (White Stone Canoe legend). From the hour she was buried, he mourned her and abandoned war and hunting; one morning, he set out for the land of souls to follow her.

Chebiabos welcomed him, said the girl had passed by, and told him to leave his body and belongings before entering. There, the young man found her in a matching canoe, and they crossed the lake together. the Great Spirit allowed them to pass, but sent the young man back because his duties were unfinished, saying the girl was accepted and would remain at the happy island. When the voice ceased, he awoke in the land of snows, realizing it had been a dream.
