The Metamorphoses of Ovid

Æsacus

Family: Troy · Role: Trojan hero · First appears: Fable 98

Æsacus, a Trojan hero, was secretly brought forth by Alexirhoë, daughter of Granicus, “under shady Ida.” Priam is named as his father, and his elder kin include Ilus, Assaracus, Ganymede, and Laomedon; he was also the brother of Hector.

Enamoured of Hesperia, Æsacus pursued her until a serpent bit her and she died instantly. He then hurled himself into the sea, but Tethys received him and covered him with feathers; gaining wings, he became a diving sea bird, flying up before throwing himself again into the waves.
