Fríburz
Family: Irán · Role: warrior · First appears: Story of Sohráb · Part 8
In the Story of Sohráb, Fríburz is named among the Persian enemies of Sohráb. In the Story of Saiáwush, he is a son of Kai-káús and one of the warriors who mourns Saiáwush. When Tús refuses to recognize Kai-khosráu and declares he will pay homage to Fríburz as heir to the throne, Fríburz and Tús later return defeated after failing to find an entrance to the fortress.
In Kai-khosráu, Fríburz confines Tús and sends him to Kai-khosráu, who orders that Fríburz take command of the army. When Persian forces are besieged, Kai-khosráu sends Fríburz with Rustem to their assistance; Gúdarz and Gíw also send Byzun to ask Fríburz to join them or safeguard the imperial banner. In battle, the enemy turns against Fríburz after Gíw and Byzun lead the fighting.
In Barzú, and his Conflict with Rustem, Kai-khosráu orders Fríburz and Tús to oppose the invasion with twelve thousand horsemen. Barzú defeats the Persian force and captures them, and Afrásiyáb tells the prisoners they will be put to death as he slew Saiáwush. At midnight, Rustem and Gustahem free Fríburz and Tús from their chains and return them to Kai-khosráu. Later, in The Death of Kai-khosráu, Fríburz is among the warriors overwhelmed by snow while asleep; none survive.
