Aymery de Pavie
Also known as: Aymery the Lombard / Sir Aymery / the Lombard · Family: England · Role: governor of Calais · First appears: Book 1, Chapter 68
At Calais in Book 1, Chapter 68, Aymery de Pavie secretly agreed with Sir Geoffry de Chargny to deliver up the town for twenty thousand crowns. At Westminster, he admitted to the king that he had agreed to sell Calais to the French, explaining, “hitherto I have not received one penny.” The king told him to continue the treaty, report the delivery date, and promised him a pardon.
Aymery then agreed to deliver Calais on the last night of the year and secretly informed the King of England through his brother. In Chapter 69, Sir Odoart de Renty brought him the twenty thousand crowns in a bag, saying he supposed the full sum was there but had not had time to count it.
