Vāsavī
Also known as: Vaidehī · Role: daughter of Sim̃ha; wife of King Bimbisāra · First appears: Chapter VI
At Vaiśālī, after Śakala arranged marriages for his sons Gopāla and Sim̃ha, Sim̃ha’s daughter was born and named Vāsavī at her birth-feast. At Rājagṛha, King Bimbisāra took her as his wife; because she came from Videha, she was also called Vaidehī.
Vāsavī conceived a son, and on the day of his conception a rain of blood fell. After nine months, she gave birth to Prince Ajātaśatru; soothsayers foretold that he would kill his father and seize sovereignty.
