Salomon
Family: Armorican Britons · Role: king · First appears: Book XII 1–3
In Book XII 1–3, when Cadwalla and Edwin were nearly adults, their parents sent them to Salomon’s court in Armorica to learn warfare and princely qualifications. Salomon received them graciously, admitted them to his intimacy, and served as both mentor and patron.
In Book XII 4–6, Cadwalla sought Salomon’s assistance in recovering his kingdom, and Salomon promised to help him. He appealed to their shared British race and blood, and spoke of Cadwalla’s descent from Hoel, son of Alan; later, in Book XII 7–11, Salomon spent the winter with Brian, with whom he resolved that Brian should go to Britain and find a way to kill Edwin’s magician. In Book XII 12–17, Alan, Salomon’s nephew, was honourably received by him.
