Ivan Tzrnoyevitch
Also known as: Ivan / Prince Ivan / Tzrnoyevitch Ivo · Family: Montenegrins · Role: prince · First appears: Chapter VII · The Marriage of Maximus Tzrnoyevitch · Part 1
In Chapter VII · The Marriage of Maximus Tzrnoyevitch, Ivan Tzrnoyevitch sailed to Venice and secured the Doge’s daughter’s betrothal to his son Maximus Tzrnoyevitch. He later decided to abandon the match, but when the Doge of Venice (father of the bride) reproached him for leaving his daughter without word, Ivan’s consort urged him not to release her from the betrothal. Ivan invited the Doge to send galleys for the wedding party, called on his cousin Captain Yovan and Milosh Obrenbegovitch to join the wedding, and gathered guests at Zablak before setting out.
On the journey, Ivan proposed that Milosh pose as the bridegroom, and the wedding party agreed. When the bride halted and objected, Ivan explained that the impersonation had been a stratagem to bring her away in peace; Milosh then ceded her and her trappings to Maximus. After Maximus had served the Turks for nine years, the Sultan granted him Scutari on the River Boyana.
