Fer Diad
Also known as: Fer Diad Mac Damain · Role: warrior · First appears: The Healing of the Morrigan · Part 5
In “The Healing of the Morrigan · Part 5,” Fer Diad and Mand of Muresc are named as brothers, sons of the same father. In “This is the Combat of Fer Diad and Cuchulainn · Part 1,” Medb sent messengers to summon Fer Diad, but he did not come with them. At the tent of Medb and Ailill, Findabair called Fer Diad her chosen wooer, and Medb offered him wealth and Findabair as a wife if he would fight Cuchulainn. Fer Diad refused, saying he would not go to battle against his foster-brother, but swore he would be first to reach the ford the next morning.
In Part 3, Fer Diad came to the ford. His charioteer recalled how Cuchulainn had once killed a hundred warriors to retrieve Fer Diad’s sword and had killed the churl who struck him. In Part 4, Cuchulainn killed Fer Diad with the Gae bolga at the ford, the spear going through his heart.
