King of Bohemia
Also known as: Charles of Luxembourg / Charles, King of Bohemia / the gallant King of Bohemia · Family: Bohemia · Role: king · First appears: Book 1, Chapter 26
In Book 1, Chapter 26, King of Bohemia came to serve under King Philip after the King of France summoned forces, bringing as many men as he could collect. By Chapter 48, King Philip counted him among the allies who answered his call with a powerful army, and loved him as “the gallant King of Bohemia.” His son Charles of Bohemia, then King of Germany, had gained that title through the influence of his father and the King of France.
At the Somme, in Chapter 52, light-horsemen belonging to King of Bohemia and Sir John de Hainault raided the English rear, taking horses and equipment and killing those who had lagged behind while crossing. In Chapter 55, Charles of Luxembourg, son of the gallant king and emperor Henry of Luxembourg, was found slain on the battlefield the morning after the fighting.
