The Myth of Hiawatha, and Other Oral Legends

the son-in-law (Wa-wa-be-zo-win legend)

Role: hunter · First appears: Wa-wa-be-zo-win; or, the Swing on the Pictured Rocks

In Wa-wa-be-zo-win; or, the Swing on the Pictured Rocks, the son-in-law was a hunter who customarily brought his wife choice pieces of game when he returned home. When the orphan boy told him what he had seen at the lake, he went there with his son and hid in the trees. At the lake, he broke the water-tiger (Wa-wa-be-zo-win legend)’s shining chain and took his wife, their child, and the orphan boy home.
