Cneius Domitius Calvinus
Also known as: Cn. Domitius / Domitius · Family: Caesarian · Role: legate · First appears: The Civil War, Book III, 29–35
In Book III of the Civil War, Caesar ordered Cneius Domitius Calvinus into Macedonia with two legions and five hundred horse. Domitius’s forces ambushed two troops; Marcus Opimius escaped, while the others were killed or captured and brought to Domitius. He was opposed to Scipio, and Quintus Varus commanded his cavalry.
After leaving his position to seek provisions at Heraclea Sentica, Domitius avoided danger and met Caesar at Aeginium. Concerned that Pompey might surprise him, Caesar hastened to join him. Later in Book III, Caesar assigned Domitius command of the army’s centre, with Marcus Antonius commanding the left wing and P. Sulla the right.
