Peter du Bois
Family: Ghent · Role: advisor · First appears: Book 2, Chapter 6
In Book 2, Chapter 6, Philip von Artaveld was chosen commander of Ghent on Peter du Bois’s recommendation. Peter advised him, while in office, “to become cruel and wicked to be the more feared.” By Chapter 8, Peter was among the chiefs who came with Philip von Artaveld, Peter le Nuitre and Francis Atremen.
In Chapter 15, Philip von Artaveld sent Peter to Commines with a large body of men, describing him as loyal and devoted to Flanders’s honor. At Ypres, Philip von Artaveld also assigned Peter and Peter le Nuitre to guard the Lis crossings.
In Chapter 19, Peter led the Flemings at Commines against the French, including Lord de St. Py, Laval, Sancerre and Anghien. The Flemings were driven back, and Peter was wounded by a lance that passed through his shoulder, as well as on the head. The Flemings also set fire to several houses in an attempt to force the French to retreat.
