the husband (Tale 45)

Role: husband · First appears: Tale 45 · The Wife Who Married an Elk

In Tale 45, the husband’s first wife left him to go with another man, then entered a lake with the Elk. When she finally came out, she felt sorry for him and sent him home. In a few days, his war-party attacked three tipis, killed the people there, and captured their ponies, fulfilling her prediction.

The next time he went on the war-path, his first wife told him, “My husband, I can never leave this lake any more.” In a few days, he captured a woman who looked like her and took her home; she became his new wife, and he was happy with her.
