Pa-Hu-Ka´-Tawa

Also known as: Pa-hu-ka´-tawa · Family: Pawnee · Role: son · First appears: Pa-Hu-Ka´-Tawa · Part 1

Near sundown, Pa-Hu-Ka´-Tawa was killed by the Sioux. His father and mother mourned the loss of their son and the help he had given them. At midnight, he returned to the lodge and revealed himself to his mother as alive, bringing her fresh buffalo meat. After a long time, he visited her again and told her how to restore her sight.

He later went to see his oldest brother and told him, “I am a spirit.” The night after a battle, he told the brother (Pa-Hu-Ka-Tawa) that the Nahu´rac had taken pity on him after he was killed. In Part 3, he warned his brother that a Sioux war party would come, and the Skidi defeated the attackers as he had foretold. He said, “There is no one above me but Ti-ra´-wa. He is the only one I am under.” Afterward, he went away to the Rees and never returned to visit his people.
