Achilles
Family: Greek · Role: leader · First appears: The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae · Fragments 61–80
The Aegimius recounts that Thetis threw the children she had with Peleus into a cauldron to test where they were mortal; after many had perished, Peleus prevented her from throwing Achilles in. The Catalogues of Women and Eoiae describes Achilles and Patroclus as first cousins. In The Cypria, Achilles marries Deidameia at Scyros, then kills Cycnus son of Poseidon at Ilium and drives the Trojans back.
In The Aethiopis, Achilles kills Penthesileia and Memnon in battle, before Paris and Apollo kill him. Thetis takes her son from the pyre and carries him to the White Island. In The Little Iliad, Odysseus wins Achilles’ arms, and Achilles’ son Neoptolemus leads Hector’s wife to the ships.
