Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond

Edmund Tudor was the son of Catherine of Valois and Owen Tudor, and a brother of Jasper Tudor, Earl of Pembroke and Henry VI. In 1437, after the death of his mother, Henry VI created him Earl of Richmond and Jasper Earl of Pembroke, because they were brothers “of one wombe.” That year Edmund and Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond had a son, Henry VII, who later became king.

Around 1453, Henry VI again elevated Edmund and Jasper to their earldoms, making Edmund Earl of Richmond and identifying him as the father of Henry VII. In an account of Edward IV, Edmund and Jasper, described as his brothers by the mother’s side, were committed to honest and virtuous prelates to be brought up.
