The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle

Margaret

Also known as: Margaret the queen / Queen Margaret · Family: Scots · Role: Edgar's sister · First appears: A.D. 1067–1069

In 1067, Margaret fled to Scotland with her siblings Edgar Etheling and Christina, their mother, and others, under Malcolm’s protection. Malcolm sought to marry her, and received her as his wife “though it was against her will.” Margaret was the daughter of Edward Etheling, son of King Edmund.

In 1074, Margaret and Malcolm received Edgar Etheling in Scotland with much pomp and gave him and his men great presents. Margaret and Malcolm had a son, Edgar, and a daughter, Maud. In 1100, Maud married Edward son of Ethelred; Margaret was described as his relative and of the right royal race of England.
