Glaucus
Family: mythological · Role: sea God · First appears: Fable 101
After eating enchanted grass, Glaucus felt his body and mind seized by “the passions of another nature.” He abandoned the land, plunged into the sea, and was received among its gods; Oceanus and Tethys removed his mortality through purification. At Anthedon, his body and mind became wholly transformed, and he took his place as a sea deity alongside Proteus, Triton, and Palæmon.
Glaucus then lingered for Scylla, who rejected his promises, entreaties, and caresses before leaving him enraged. He went to the court of Circe, where she offered herself and urged him to abandon Scylla, but he refused, declaring that “Sooner shall foliage grow in the ocean, and {sooner} shall sea-weed spring up on the tops of the mountains, than my affections shall change, while Scylla is alive.”
