Aracus
Family: Lacedaemonians · Role: admiral · First appears: Book 2, section 1, part 1/2
In Book 2, section 1, Aracus was appointed admiral, with Lysander as second in command, because Lacedaemonian custom did not allow the same man to serve as admiral twice.
In 398 B.C., at Lampsacus, Aracus, Naubates, and Antisthenes arrived as envoys and told Dercylidas that his command had been extended for another year. They also relayed the ephors’ criticism of the soldiers’ earlier conduct and praise for their recent conduct. Later, Aracus served as a Lacedaemonian ambassador alongside Ocyllus, Pharax, Etymocles, and Olontheus.
