In chapter 1, Kilydd, son of Prince Kelyddon, desired “a wife as a helpmate” and chose Goleuddydd, daughter of Prince Anlawdd. After their union, the people prayed that they might have an heir, and they had a son, Kilhwch. The same chapter places Kilydd in an enemies relationship with Doged.

In chapter 3, Kilhwch identifies himself as the son of Kilydd and Goleuddydd, and as the grandson of Prince Kelyddon.
