Greek Mythology

Bias

First appears: Apollodorus, Library 1.9

Bias was one of the two sons of Amythaon, alongside Melampus. He wooed Pero, daughter of Neleus, who said he would give her to whoever brought him the kine of Phylacus; Bias and Pero later had a son, Talaus. Bias also became a suitor of Penelope among the men from Dulichium.

At Sicyon, during the pursuit of Iphinoe and her sisters, Iphinoe died while the others were later purified and recovered; Proetus then gave the surviving daughters in marriage to Melampus and Bias, including Lysippe and Iphianassa. Melampus had promised to cure them when Bias received as much land as he did. In a later account, Pylas slew Bias, “his father's brother.”
