Zacchaeus
Role: chief among the publicans · First appears: Luke 19
Zacchaeus, chief among the publicans, sought to see Jesus in Luke 19 at Jericho. Jesus commanded him, “Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house,” though others described Jesus as having gone to be guest with a sinner.
Zacchaeus pledged to give half his goods to the poor and restore fourfold anything he had taken by false accusation. Jesus then declared that salvation had come to his house, because Zacchaeus was also a son of Abraham.
