Annapāna
Family: Videha · Role: son of Janaka · First appears: Chapter VIII
In Chapter VIII, Annapāna was born to Janaka and his unnamed mother, and was named for the abundance of food and drink in the land. When he grew up, his mother’s refusal to comply with Janaka’s wishes troubled the king. After hearing the news, Annapāna told his mother he was leaving and went to Panchāla.
There, the king gave Annapāna his daughter in marriage and granted him lands. Their son, Bahvannapāna, was born from the marriage. Annapāna later fell ill and died; the king then gave his daughter and Bahvannapāna to the Purohita, with whom she lived happily.
