The Fall of Troy

Antenor

Family: The Trojans · Role: prays to Zeus · First appears: Book IX · Part 1

In Book IX, Antenor prayed to Zeus, who answered but refused to turn Achilles’ son away from Troy. In Book X, Antenor’s son Acamas is named among the warriors; in Book XI, Eurymachus is identified as his son.

In Book XIII, Eurydamas, Antenor’s son-in-law and a man noted for his prudence in Troy, was slain. The Argives spared Antenor’s life and property because he had once sheltered Menelaus and Odysseus; they treated him as a friend, also fearing Themis. In Book XIV, Antenor buried Polyxeina near his own house. Later, he led the surviving Trojans in burial rites for their slain, raising one pyre for all.
