Giuki
Also known as: Gjuke · Family: Gjukungs · Role: king; father of Gunnar, Hogni and Gudrun · First appears: Elder Edda · The Lay of Hyndla
In the Lay of Hyndla, Giuki is named as the father of Gunnar and Hogni, and Gudrun is their sister and his daughter. The account in the Poetical Diction also names Gudny among his children and says Gothorm was his step-son; Grimhild was his wife, and Giaflaug his sister. The First Lay of Gudrun also calls Gullrond his daughter.
In Gripir’s Prophecy, Gripir foretells that if Sigurd stays with Giuki for one night, he will forget Brynhild. In the Second Lay of Gudrun, Giuki gives Gudrun in marriage to Sigurd. Later, in Oddrun’s Lament, Atli refuses a marriage-gift offered by Giuki’s son for Oddrun.
