Pausanias' Description of Greece

Patreus

Family: Achaia · Role: founder of Patræ · First appears: Book 3 · Chapter 2

During his reign in Achaia, Patreus, son of Preugenes, founded Patræ, the city named after him. Later, he and Preugenes were allowed by the Achæans to build a city in their territory, with equal authority.

When the Achæans later drove the Ionians out, Patreus barred settlement at Anthea and Mesatis, enlarged Aroe to include the town, and renamed it Patræ. He was a grandson of Agenor; at Patræ, golden effigies of Patreus, Preugenes and Atherion commemorated them as companions and contemporaries.
