Gods and Fighting Men

Miach

Family: Tuatha de Danaan · Role: healer · First appears: The Gods · The Coming of the Tuatha de Danaan · The Reign of Bres · Part 2

At Teamhair, Miach replaced a young man’s lost eye with a cat’s eye, which startled at small movements when he tried to rest but slept when he wished to watch. Later, dissatisfied with what his father Diancecht had done for Nuada, Miach restored the king’s severed hand, healing him over three days and three nights with the words, “Joint to joint, and sinew to sinew.”

Diancecht struck Miach repeatedly with his sword, and Miach died after the final blow. Airmed, his sister, spread out her cloak and arranged herbs according to their virtue from Miach’s grave, but Diancecht mixed them up, leaving their full powers unknown.
