Sir Galihodin
Also known as: Galihodin / King of Surluse · Family: Surluse · Role: knight · First appears: Book VII, Chapter XXVIII
In Book VII, Chapter XXVIII, Sir Galihodin faced Sir Gareth as a rival and was struck to the earth. When Sir Galihud took up a spear to avenge his brother, Sir Gareth defeated him in the same way. By Book X, Chapter LXVI, Galihodin, identified as Sir Galahalt’s near cousin and the King of Surluse, stood among those holding against King Arthur at the tournament; Sir Palomides later struck both horse and rider to the ground. He and Sir Gawaine recognized their opponent as either Sir Tristram or Sir Palomides, and the following day reported to King Arthur that the green knight had thrown them and six companions.
In Book X, Chapter XLIX, Sir Launcelot made Galihodin lead him through the range, but in Book XVIII, Chapter XI, Galihodin was among those who bore great hate toward him and sought to rebuke him. He was listed among Queen Guenever’s patrons, and later fought alongside Sir Bors, Sir Ector, Sir Lionel, Sir Lamorak, Sir Bleoberis, Sir Galihud, and Sir Pelleas. By Book XX, Chapter V, he joined twenty-two knights in promising to do whatever Sir Launcelot wished; in Chapter XVIII, Sir Launcelot made him Duke of Sentonge.
