Lyodot
Also known as: M. Lyodot / MM. Lyodot · Role: farmer of revenue · First appears: Chapter 54
Lyodot, a farmer of revenue, was a friend of Fouquet; when asked whether Lyodot was among his friends, Fouquet answered, “Certainly.” He also paid Sorel’s pension. In chapter 54, Colbert’s notes listed Lyodot among the farmers of revenue marked for condemnation, alongside D’Eymeris, and a secret Chamber of Justice passed death sentences on them in chapter 55.
Colbert caused Lyodot and D’Eymeris to be arrested, tried, and condemned to hanging. They were taken from the Palais to Vincennes by royal order, while Fouquet and Abbe Fouquet arranged a plan to rescue them from execution and devised a riot to pull them from the gibbets.
In chapter 63, D’Artagnan said he had replaced Lyodot and D’Eymeris in the hands of the archers and caused them to be hanged rather than burned. By chapter 74, Aramis described Lyodot and D’Eymeris as dear friends whose deaths had been brought about by D’Artagnan’s actions.
